Наверное - сколько живу, ни разу не слыхал, чтобы взрослые люди друг друга "ботанами" называли :) А традиция употребления слова "интеллигент" в указанном смысле как раз прочна и незыблема (http://eho.haim.ru/eho_inte.php) :)
