Что такого по пьяни натворил герой песни, в ночь, которую он не мог вспомнить? Я так понял, сотворил что-то нехорошее со своей женой, которая после этого от него ушла. Но что именно? Возможно это связано с каким-то малоизвестным в России американским событием, произошедшим 23-го октября, 1995-го?

Она не простит, что бы он потом ни обещал и ни говорил. Я не вижу в этой песне никаких намеков на то, что он в пьяном виде сказал что-то УЖАСНОЕ.

Вы трактуете whatever he said как no matter what he later said, а я это воспринимаю как something (something unknown, something that he couldn't remember) he said.
Может быть это оттого, что в разговорах вокруг можно услышать (неграмматические -? ) полные предложения I can do whatever или I can say whatever.

Ну тогда дело точно не конкретно в том, что он надудонился. Уж это-то он явно должен помнить, хотя бы в связи с последующим похмельем.
