Русский текст, пожалуй, даже не нужен, на взгляд тех, кто читает на английском языке на уровне носителя, что здесь звучит ненатурально и что надо бы подправить?
At the early stage of development of geomorphology, information about relief was not usually mapped but existed only in the form of accompanying written notes made for the purposes of rail tracks laying or mining, for example. It was quite enough to represent the relief in orographic diagrams and descriptions to them. Orographic diagrams were compiled according to easily identified crest lines (lines connecting maximum heights) and keel lines (lines connecting minimum heights) of the relief, and that was all, in fact, about the morphological part of Geomorphology.
In Russia, the first mention of the term "geomorphology" appeared in 1914, though geomorphological studies, in fact, had been carried out at least since the middle of the previous century, especially since the opening of the department of Physical Geography at St. Petersburg University (1835) and the establishment of the Russian Geographical Society in 1845. Let us remind that geomorphology was first used as a term to describe the morphology of the Earth surface in the 1870s and 1880s.
Later, the regionalist phase (1920–1950) was characterized by detailed and thorough investigations of regional landscapes, both in the conventional mid-latitudes of North America and Europe as well as in globally remote areas (e.g. tropics, deserts, high latitudes).
