-I thought it was the tan of the year.
-Tan of the year? You’re a little light.

п. затейники разыгрывают "tan of the year" awards, то есть "приз за лучший загар"...
- I thought it was the tan of the year.

- Tan of the year? You’re a little light.

Didn't know that. I guess that what happens when you cross the ocean at the adult age.

Me neither.

It does not seem to be a very common expression, though: google barely gives 10 hits. Maybe it was an old-fashioned enterntainment obsolete by the time we arrived to the States.

I think the expression became obsolete since sun became politically incorrect... my children never heard of this expression... I was somewhat suprised but admit I may have heard it only once or twice myself

I may have sent a canard flying, but there is no other way I can understand this sentence without a wider context

By the way, expression you are a little light usually means you are short of money but this hardly helps...

Your interpretation looks very plausible to me. Maybe the author belongs to an older generation.

"Tan of the (whole) year? You are a little light."

Me thinketh так.
