да нет вроде. Похоже, это два самостоятельных высказывания. По крайней мере, первое гуглится как “la sculpture est un art de creux et de bosses”, а второе обычно приводят в кач-ве его знаменитого ответа на вопрос `как вам удаются такие замечательные творения?` — “I choose a block of marble and chop off whatever I don't need.” (оригинала не сыскал)

+++не та ли эта знаменитая фраза+++ Вряд ли. В полном виде это выглядит так: "Sculpture is the art of the hole and the lump, not the straightness of smooth faces without modeling. The ignorant say: ‘That is not finished,’ but there is no notion more false than this of finish, unless it be that of ‘elegance" (http://www.abstractfigurativesculpture.com/html/rodin.html). Это совсем про другое.
