Возможно всё гораздо проще - Карлин никогда не любил гольф и не упускал возможности поъязвить на тему личной неприязни к гольфу и играющим в гольф в целом. Симпсон же всегда был заядлым игроком в гольф (и любителем голфа) и все время демонстрировал это (гольф даже фигурирует в показаниях во время его знаменитого первого судебного процесса, не говоря уже о втором).
