Но обратное не обязательно верно, может быть просто неосторожная смена рядов, при том, что места на дороге навалом

Проверять английские выражения лучше по словарю изданному в стране нужного Вам языка (Америке, Австралии, Англии в зависимости нужного вам варианта и да, они разные), русский же по русскому словарю проверять.

О себе хороший человек будет говорить cut in - I was trying to cut in between the cars in the other lane, but the traffic was too heavy. Про злого же дядю мы скажем cut off - I was already late for work when that guy in bmw convertible cut me off, nearly causing me to crash into him.
