Eruditeness

Слово eruditeness звучит и выглядит, как невольный или шутливый неологизм, как если бы человек пытался вспомнить слово erudition, но наугад подставил неверный суффикс. А между тем оно существует и является, насколько я могу судить полным, хотя и непопулярным, синонимом erudition.

Два вопроса, первый - риторический: зачем нужны два слова от одного латинского корня, означающих одно и то же? Возможно ли, что кто-то когда-то действительно перепутал с erudition и повторял эту ошибку до тех пор, пока ее не включили в словарь на правах синонима? (Я почти шучу.)

Второй: можно ли считать erudition и/или eruditeness полным аналогом "эрудиции"? Например, по-русски можно сказать "слабая эрудиция". Мне кажется, erudition слабой быть не может, она или есть, или ее нет.

Хотел сначала фыркнуть: "что нам оксфорды, живую дискуссию давай", но нашел в конце цитаты здравую и полезную мысль.

Получается, что erudition - это набор знаний, а eruditeness - присутствие у человека этого набора, так что ли? А наша "эрудиция" означает и это и другое сразу. Правильно? И в этом смысле оба английских слова являются точным переводом. Говоря "слабая эрудиция", мы имеем в виду eruditeness. Так?

По-русски eruditeness получается эрудированность.

Получается. Так еще лучше.

Мне все же не дает покоя "слабая эрудиция". Может, это недудачное выражение, выдающее слабую эрудированность говорящего? Вернее, слабые языковые навыки.
