"Here is a copy of my dissertation" = "Here is a copy of my thesis".
However, "thesis" has a broader meaning (i.e., you can say "Master's thesis" ( "Дипломная работа на степень Магистра") but you can't say Master's dissertation).

Date: 2006-02-01 04:18 am (UTC)Точно знаю, что в американских университетах дипломная работа, которую пишут и защищают выпускники университета называется либо senior thesis, либо honors thesis (в зависимости от конкретной программы), но никогда не dissertation.
А вот что касается ученой степени, то употребляются оба слова, но dissertation звучит формальней, что-ли (но это ИМХО). По крайней мере, на титульной странице пишут dissertation , не thesis. И защита - dissertation defense.

Major papers presented as the final project for a masters degree are normally called theses; and major papers presenting the student's research towards a doctoral degree are called dissertations.
At UK universities, the term thesis is usually associated with a Ph.D. (doctoral) or M.Phil. degree, while dissertation is the more common term for the research project required for an M.A. or other postgraduate degree.
