In the 30 years following one of his great race wins, the first victory on its first race of the Ford-Cosworth engine in the Lotus 49 at Zandvoort on June 4, 1967, motor racing changed almost out of all recognition. He would scarcely recognise the be-winged ground-effect cars that evolved, although some reminders of the old days remain, notably a leading racing engine with FORD on the cam covers. He pioneered a whole dynasty of engines that will ring in the advent of the new millennium and only ring out well into it.
